HANS DB · Data security · Adelaide, Australia

Data storage with no admin, no access and no edit.

A distributed platform for storing and sharing data. It has no administrator account and no edit path, so there is no master key to steal and no record anyone can quietly change.

01 · Problem

Every system trusts someone. That trust is what gets breached.

Most data stores rely on an administrator, a password or a stored key. Each one can be phished, misused or leaked, and whoever holds it can read or rewrite the data.

Personal data is unforgiving: once it has leaked there is no recalling it. Protecting the perimeter isn't enough when the weak point is the trust built into the system itself.

02 · HANS DB

Three rules, enforced by design.

  1. No passwords

Access uses dynamic mechanisms instead of stored passwords, keys or biometrics.

    Details

There is no password database or biometric template to steal or mishandle. Triggering a function can't compromise the data behind it, and compromised hardware can still be audited physically.

  2. No edit

Data is written once to locations that can't be changed afterwards.

    Details

Data travels predefined paths to locations that can't be edited, so every interaction leaves a record nobody can quietly rewrite.

  3. Fits existing systems

HANS works alongside the technology you already run.

    Details

HANS is technology-agnostic. It doesn't require a platform switch, so features can be added to existing systems without a migration.

We should treat personal electronic data with the same care and respect as weapons grade plutonium – it is dangerous, long-lasting and once it has leaked, there is no getting it back.

03 · Company

A small Australian team that takes things apart.

Team

We come from hardware, transport and logistics, government, law and banking. We like breaking things (objects, policies, ideas) and putting them back together better.

Consulting

Besides building HANS DB, we consult on digital security, identity and IT systems. We also review blockchain proposals, and usually advise against them.
